Amplifying Public Health Research and Journalism with Akilah Wise

This is a Better to Speak Communications case study, to highlight our previous partnerships and projects with Black community leaders and organizations.

WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT

Journalism today has evolved into an industry where journalists themselves can have just as much name and brand recognition as the publication(s) they report for. With this in mind, it’s important for journalists – especially Black journalists who may not be otherwise equitably supported by news organizations – should take the time to invest in their personal brand. In this context, a journalist’s brand exists beyond a logo or color palette – but rather a reputation for one’s journalistic track record and expertise.

The Challenge

Akilah Wise, Ph.D., approached us with that in mind: She needed a site to showcase her work in public health – across academic research as well as her journalistic reporting.

She wanted something simple that showcased her multifaceted body of work, and Better to Speak got to work to create a website that does just that – something that is easy to navigate for users and easy to update for Akilah.

The Process

Once we discussed her goals and what kind of website would best support those goals, we worked together through the following process:

  • Outlined information architecture and site map to make sure we captured all of her work on the site

  • Gathered content assets – including photos, audio, copy and links to her clips

  • Built out the website and worked through around 2-3 rounds of edits to finalize

The Outcome

Ultimately, Akilah was happy with her new website! We went on to add additional pages to showcase the coaching and consulting services she provides – you can learn more and book her here!
