The Dream Team Takes D.C. for the Powerful IDEA Expo [EVENT RECAP]

Last week, Victoria and Kési went to Washington, D.C. for GAIN Power’s Powerful IDEA Expo which brought together hundreds of political organizations and leaders for a career fair, networking and trainings.

The Expo was a great chance to connect with other leaders in this space – including Cirilo Manego from Black With No Chaser – and with each other in person!

Keep reading to check out our takeaways from the event that we think other young Black advocates can benefit from:

  1. Continue to push political institutions and organizations to substantially invest in and value their workers, and – in general – lower the barriers to entering this field that historically keep marginalized people and their community leaders out.

  2. Additionally, push those institutions and organizations to invest in the communities that are most directly impacted by their decision-making (or lack thereof) – especially ahead of the midterm elections.

  3. When launching our own brands, businesses, organizations and programs to address these sociopolitical issues, strive to be different, and better.

  4. Be sure to take regular moments to pause and celebrate yourself.
